Η προσφώνηση στις συνομιλιακές αφηγήσεις [Addressing in conversational narratives]

This is the fourth volume in the series Studies in Spoken Discourse, which was inaugurated in 2015 under the scientific direction of Prof. Th.-S. Pavlidou. The book deals with the phenomenon of addressing in everyday communication, using vocative particles (e.g. ρε, βρε, μωρέ) as well as vocative nominal forms (e.g. παιδιά, Μαρία μου, φίλε). The employment of such expressions is investigated in the context of a specific text type (the narrative), and this constitutes an innovative aspect of the present study.

The social group – more precisely, the community of practice – from which the research data are drawn, is a theater group to which the researcher herself belongs. The group’s members have known each other for many years, have been meeting regularly for rehearsals (but also for other activities) and are connected to each other by relationships of familiarity or even friendship. Consequently, the author was able not only to collect naturally occurring conversational narratives but also to have an insider’s knowledge of the values/norms that prevail in this community of practice.
