Αρχαία ελληνική γραμματολογία [Ancient Greek literature]
F. I. Kakridis
The book presents the history of Ancient Greek literature from the Homeric period to the foundation of Constantinople, and is intended mainly for junior and senior high school students. It aspires to become a reference point, both in terms of the occasional search for information on some particular work, author or literary genre, and in relation to the reconstruction, through systematic study, of a more complete picture of the ancient Greek world. In the book’s introduction, basic concepts and genres are briefly defined, the chronological limits of Ancient Greek literature are discussed, and information on the tradition of the texts is provided.
The main body of the book is divided into five chapters, each of which discusses the evolution and development of ancient literary genres in the respective periods of Greek antiquity. By providing a wealth of commentary on the historical context of each period in the beginning of each chapter, the author manages not to isolate people and things from the events that illuminate them. The book also includes an author index and a small glossary of philological and other related terms.
Fanis Kakridis is emeritus professor at the university of Ioannina.
